      Honoring the Legacy: Conference marking the 130th anniversaries of Vygotsky and Piaget

      The Faculty of Psychology of Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Department of Philosophy of Education (Faculty of Philosophy), Lomonosov Moscow State University, with the support of the Russian Psychological Society, invite scholars, educators, psychologists, and all interested specialists to take part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference «Philosophical, Psychological and Pedagogical Heritage and Modernity: Commemorating the Anniversaries of L. S. Vygotsky and J. Piaget»,  which will be held on October 22, 2026.

      The conference coincides with the 130th anniversary of the birth of Lev Semyonovich Vygotsky (1896–1934) and Jean Piaget (1896–1980) and will serve as a platform for reflecting on how the ideas of these outstanding scientists continue to influence modern science and practice.

      Conference goals

      Participants will discuss the significance of the theoretical legacy of L. S. Vygotsky and J. Piaget for contemporary socio-humanitarian discourse, and will also examine the role of cultural-historical theory and cognitive psychology in education and in modern concepts of personality development.

      Special section from the UNESCO Chair

      As part of the conference, there will be a section  «Early Development through the Lens of Lev Vygotsky’s and Jean Piaget’s Ideas: An International Dialogue of UNESCO Chairs», initiated by the UNESCO Chair «Early Childhood Education and Development» of the International Academy of Preschool Education.

      The aim of the section is to create a professional platform for updating the ideas of L.S. Vygotsky and J. Piaget in the context of early child development, as well as for comparing practices of applying these approaches in different countries, drawing on projects and initiatives of UNESCO Chairs.

      Program and work formats

      The conference will be held in a mixed format and will be organized into the following sections:

      • «Dialogue» of Vygotsky and Piaget: Significance for the Development of Theory and Practice of Education (in-person);
      • Psychology, Philosophy, Pedagogy: Interconnection and Influence (in-person);
      • Human Interaction with Culture: Consciousness, Activity, Sign Systems (in-person);
      • Cognitive Functions in Classical Works and Contemporary Research (in-person);
      • Current Educational Strategies for Implementing the Concept of Development (mixed format);
      • Development of the Ideas of L. S. Vygotsky’s Cultural-Historical Concept as a Response of Psychological Science to Contemporary Challenges (mixed format);
      • Early Development through the Lens of Lev Vygotsky’s and Jean Piaget’s Ideas: An International Dialogue of UNESCO Chairs (online).

      Publication of results

      Following the conference, proceedings will be published in an electronic collection of articles, providing participants with an opportunity to present their research to a broad professional audience.

The goals of the study are to understand the current state of youth mental health and the ways it is impacted by crises, investigate emerging trends, and shape recommendations that support youth mental well-being and foster resilience among young people. It therefore aims to provide meaningful support to governments by contributing to the development of policies and systems that address the needs of youth.
