Seminar «How to Navigate the World of Children's Digital Apps»
Child development and education in the modern world is being transformed by the global digitalization of society. This refers not only to children's use of smartphones and tablets, but rather about the digital revolution—a phenomenon that has radically changed the global economy. The driving force of the modern economy is no longer factories and plants, but goods and services exchanged online. The digitalization of society requires the appropriate competencies for individuals to function successfully in this new society.
Digital devices are becoming an integral part of life from early childhood. For instance, preschoolers spend about 2–3 hours per day in front of screens. Screen time increases with age, reaching up to 8 hours per day by adolescence. Children use digital devices to play, communicate, learn, and engage in creative activities.
Therefore, completely excluding digital devices from a child's life is not advisable. However, how can we ensure their use is beneficial and does not harm child development? We'll explore this and other questions in this seminar with Alexander N. Veraksa (Staff Member of the UNESCO Chair, Head of the Department of Educational Psychology and Pedagogy, Faculty of Psychology, Lomonosov Moscow State University, First Deputy Director, Head of the Laboratory of Childhood Psychology and Digital Socialization at the Federal Scientific Center for Psychological and Interdisciplinary Research, Doctor of Psychology, Academician of the Russian Academy of Education) and Daria A. Bukhalenkova (Cand. Sci. (Psychology), Associate Professor at the Department of Educational Psychology and Pedagogy, Faculty of Psychology, Lomonosov Moscow State University).
