On August 9, the International Symposium «Education and Development of Children in the Digital Age» was held under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, bringing together UNESCO Chairs from Russia and abroad. The symposium featured presentations from heads and staff of UNESCO Chairs, as well as teachers and practitioners from the UNESCO Associated Schools Network in the Russian Federation. The participants shared successful experiences of using digital technologies in the educational process, focusing on the problems of safe, meaningful and creative use of digital tools to promote learning and development of children.
The symposium was moderated by A.N. Veraksa, Head of the Department of Educational Psychology and Pedagogy of the Faculty of Psychology of Lomonosov Moscow State University, First Deputy Director, Head of the Laboratory of Childhood Psychology and Digital Socialization of the Federal Scientific Center for Psychological and Interdisciplinary Research, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

1. N. E. Veraksa, Head of the UNESCO Chair of Education and Development of Young Children, Dr. Sci. (Psychology), Professor at the Faculty of Psychology of Lomonosov Moscow State University, noted in his speech the importance of discussing the impact of digitalization on preschool education, emphasizing that one of the key issues is changing the role of play in children's lives this draws attention to the need to rethink the provisions of cultural and historical psychology.
2. Head of the UNESCO Chair «Adaptation of Man and Society in the Arctic regions in the context of climate change and Globalization», Northeastern Federal University named after M.K. Ammosov, Yakutsk, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Dr. Sci. (Psychology), A.V. Zhozhikov together with the Director of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Federal Institute of Native Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation" in Yakutsk, N. V. Sitnikova and Jose Antonio Flores Farfan, PhD, Professor at the Center for Science and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS), coordinator of the Victor Franko Digital Laboratory of Indigenous Languages, the Linguapax Institute, UNESCO Consultant on Latin America, presented a joint international project to vitalize the endangered indigenous languages of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The project includes the creation of multimedia books containing riddles, proverbs and sayings in native languages. The uniqueness of this approach lies in the fact that animated books were developed by the children themselves, which contributes to their involvement in the process of preserving and popularizing the language.
3. M.V. Zarudnaya, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the Plekhanov Russian State University of Economics, representative of the UNESCO Chair «Socio-legal and Ethical Foundations of the Knowledge Society (Information Society)» noted the importance of developing digital skills and literacy in children at the early stages of their development.
4. Ya.K. Smirnova, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Applied Psychology of Altai State University, specialist of the UNESCO Chair of Innovative Education in the Euro-Asian Region, shared the results of research related to the problem of teaching children with hearing impairment. In report, she emphasized the importance of using various learning tools that can significantly affect the process of perception and assimilation of information by children with hearing impairment.
5. Representatives of the UNESCO Chair for Comparative Studies of the Quality of Higher Education at the MISIS Scientific Research Technological University — V.I. Kruglov, Dr. Sci. (Technical), Professor and V.F. Pugach, Dr. Sci. (Sociology) — presented a report based on statistical data on preschool children and teachers in towns and villages.
6. Candido Alberto Da Costa Gomez, PhD, Professor of Education and Director of the Center for Research, Innovation and Development at the Fafe Institute of Higher Education from Portugal, Founder and Honorary Member of the UNESCO Chair of Education, Youth and Society, presented a report on the impact of social media on children and adolescents in Brazil. A study conducted jointly with the Faculty of Psychology of Moscow State University has shown that the Internet acts as an implicit agent of education, starting from the period of preschool education and continuing into adolescence both at school and at home.
7. E.V. Solovyova, PhD, scientific supervisor of School No. 1306 – «School of Young Politicians», which is part of the UNESCO Network of Associated Schools in the Russian Federation, presented the experience of using information technology to develop children's creative abilities.
8. E.M. Nasonova, Project Manager of the Russian Committee of the World Organization for Preschool Education OMEP and Deputy Director of the «MIR DETSTVA» for innovative projects, as well as Yu.V. Dyachenko-Dekova, senior methodologist at «MIR DETSTVA» of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network in the Russian Federation, presented the experience of integrating digital technologies into environmental education, which has received a high international rating.
9. E. A. Sadretdinova, PhD, Head of the special (correctional) kindergarten for children with autism spectrum disorders «MY VMESTE» with the Federal State Educational Institution of Higher Education of the UNESCO Network of Associated Schools in the Russian Federation, shared her experience about truly unique and in-demand work with children with autism spectrum disorders using digital technologies.
10. S.M. Zakharova, Head of Kindergarten No. 51 «Kaskil» named after E. G. Kornilova, Yakutsk, The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) of the UNESCO Network of Associated Schools in the Russian Federation, and senior tutor L.V. Argunova shared their experiences using digital technologies to diversify the educational process, introduce children to the culture and traditions of their native land, and consolidate their knowledge in a playful way.
11. The baton of presenting the experience of using digital devices in the education of preschoolers was taken by M.V. Permyakova, musical director of the Kindergarten «Ulybka» named after P.I. Borisova in the village of Churapcha, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) of the UNESCO Network of Associated Schools in the Russian Federation, who shared her experience of using digital means in music education.
12. In continuation of the international dialogue on the digital development of children, A Sabu John, Professor, Associate Professor of Psychology at Christ University, Bangalore, shared India's experience in ensuring the digital well-being of children through school counseling and interaction with educators.
The UNESCO chairs participating in the symposium expressed their desire to continue the dialogue and work together on projects aimed at improving the educational process in the digital age.
